  • Visit Kigali Genocide Memorial.

The Kigali Genocide Memorial commemorates the 1994 Rwandan genocide. The remains of over 250,000 people are interred there. There is a visitor center for students and those wishing to understand the events leading up to the genocide of 1994. Information about it can be relayed via interviews or watching on screens. It is said to be a very moving and emotional session.

 

Apart from the main Kigali Genocide Memorial, other memorials you could visit are the Nyanza Genocide memorial, Ntarama Genocide Memorial, Nyamata Genocide Memorial, Murambi Genocide Memorial.

It is one of the prominent markets in Rwanda. You can find anything in Kimoronko Market, from handicrafts, clothes, souvenirs, and vegetables. You can interact with the locals and take pictures too (with their permission). It is the perfect place to learn and experience authentic Kigali.

  • Nyungwe Forest National Park | Nyungwe National Park lies in southwest Rwanda, partly abutting the Burundi border. It's a vast area of mountain rainforest, home to many species of chimpanzees, plus owl-faced and colobus monkeys. The Canopy Walkway, part of the Igishigishigi Trail, is a high suspension bridge with views over the valley and surrounding forests. A trail runs to the Kamiranzovu Marsh, with its birdlife, orchids, and waterfall.

  • Lake Kivu | Lake Kivu is one of the African Great Lakes. It lies on the border between the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Rwanda and is in the Albertine Rift, the western branch of the East African Rift. Lake Kivu empties into the Ruzizi River, which flows southwards into Lake Tanganyika.
